How peak season affects you.

Moving an entire household can be a complex task. It needs to be planned, sometimes months in advance. It is important to know the impacts of peak season so you will know just what to expect come moving time.

Studies show that 80% of people relocate during the summer months. This makes sense since the weather is nice and the children are out of school. For these reasons peak season starts in April and lasts through the end of September. If you want to find quality movers without a hassle, it’s wise to start checking things off your moving checklist as soon as possible. Here’s why:

More Demand. Even for a simple local relocation, it is much harder to find an available date during the summer months. Once you decide to move, start looking for a mover right away.

Timing. If possible, avoid weekends. It is less expensive and generally less busy to move during the week. The beginning and the end of the month are quite hectic, so try to book your move some time mid-month.  Avoid days before and after Memorial Day Weekend, as they are some of the busiest days for movers. Things generally starts to slow down after Labor Day so keep that in mind too.

Higher Prices. Just like with almost anything else – higher demand usually means a higher price. The month and the day of your move can impact both the availability of moving companies and their pricing.  If you are moving for work and can claim moving expenses, then it’s no big deal. But, if you are moving out of your own budget, then this can make or break it. So, make sure you have enough money in your budget. And do your research before committing.

Less Availability. Book your move sooner rather than later. Planning is key, especially for long distance moves. Companies need to make certain arrangements to ensure that your goods will be delivered on time.

Watch for scammers. Moving scams are more prevalent during peak season. If you wait until the last minute to book your move, the odds of picking a shady mover go up. To protect yourself, make sure to ahead to guarantee that you hired a certified crew.
